ABOUT US
A M Yateem Brothers is a single-family office based in Manama, Bahrain. Established in 1910 by the two brothers Mr. Ali Ahmed Yateem and Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Yateem.
Husain Ali Yateem is the oldest son of Mr. Ali Ahmed Yateem, and began his career in the business at an early age. He joined the family business, after completing his studies in England. During his business career, he raised the company to new heights and registered it as “W. L. L Company” in the year 1992 with his two sons and three daughters being the shareholders of the company.
The icon Mr. Husain Ali Yateem is considered one of the foremost business pioneers in the recent history of Bahrain. He was born in Manama in 1914 to a well-known trading family. His father, Ali Yateem was a prominent merchant who traded in wood, medicine, and building material imported from India. He first studied at American Mission School, then at the age of 13 travelled to England where he was enrolled in the Brighton Grammar School in 1927, thus becoming the first Bahraini student to study in England.
His visit to the World Expo in New York in the year 1938 was an important point in his career. It was there that he met the founder of the famous air conditioning manufacturer company Dr, Willis Carrier. Following that meeting, he became the exclusive agent for Carrier in Bahrain and formed Yateem Airconditioning which became the leader of the air conditioning business in Bahrain.
Among Mr. Yateem’ s many firsts are the first purified water and iced plants in Bahrain, the country’s first cinema in 1930, the first Petrol Station in the Gulf in 1938. He also founded Gulf Aviation Company (currently Gulf Air) in 1949-1950, with Mr. Freddie Bosworth which was one of the first airlines in the region and the first Gas Plants for soft drinks and industrial gases in 1955. The fist air-conditioned centre; Yateem Centre with underground parking and escalators was built in 1981. Mr. Husain built the first residential villa compound in Bahrain, The Yateem Gardens, which is surrounded by lush gardens and palm trees.
In addition, he was one of the founders of the National Bank of Bahrain, Gulf Hotel and Red Crescent Society. He was an elected member of the Manama Municipality. He headed the Bahrain Chamber of Industry and Commerce for many years.
Mr. Husain Ali Yateem was conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award at the first Bahrain Award Entrepreneurship in the year 2005 for his pioneering contribution to Bahrain’s economy and community.
Alongside his accomplishments in business, Mr. Husain Ali Yateem was a wonderful philanthropist and left an indelible mark in his services to his community and humanity, including building the Yateem Mosque on his private land in the centre of Manama and many other works of charity. After the sad demise of the legend Mr. Husain Ali Yateem in the year 2015, the company progressed under the leadership of his sons Mr. Ali Husain Yateem as the Chairman and Mr. Mohamed Husain Yateem as the Vice-Chairman along with their sisters Mrs. Mary Husain Yateem, Mrs. Salwa Husain Yateem, Mrs. Shahrazad Husain Yateem as Board Directors.
Mr. Ali Husain Yateem was also the Director of National Bank of Bahrain, Deputy Chairman of Bahrain National Holdings Company, and the Director of Bahrain Tourism Company. He is currently the chairman of the Group Companies. Mr. Mohamed Husain Yateem obtained a master’s degree in business administration in 1979. He was an Ex-Chairman of the Central Bank of Bahrain. Ex-Board of Ahli Bank, Vice Chairman of Bahrain International Golf Course Company, and Board member of Gulf Hotels Group. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Group Companies.

A.M. Yateem Brothers' heritage goes back to Mr. Hussain Ali Yateem who was an industrialist and a well-known pioneer as he played a major role to many glories of modern Bahrain such as establishing the first air conditioning company in Bahrain - Yateem Air Conditioning, and Yateem Garden - a prized real estate in the kingdom. He was also a key figure responsible for the establishment of Gulf Aviation, a Bahrain-based airline which since been rebranded as Gulf Air, as well as opening Bahrain’s first cinema and petrol station near Bab Al Bahrain.
